We Are Taino documentary short airs on PBS

aired Season 2, Episode 6, "We Are Taíno." This 12 minute documentary short follow Maekiaphan Phillips, a Taino woman from the U.S. Virgin Islands, on her journey to reclaim her Taino heritage and to become the first woman Kasike (chief) of the Guainía Taino Tribe of the U.S. Virgin Islands. In her efforts to redress the history of colonial erasure, she pursues and achieves official recognition of her community. The film also includes appearances by Kasike Múkaro Agueibaná, President of the United Confederation of Taíno People and Behike Miguel Sague of the Caney Spiritual Circle.
