JUNETEENTH

The UCTP pauses in its work, in solidarity, to recognize: Juneteenth, officially Juneteenth National Independence Day, is celebrated on June 19th to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States. It specifically marks the day, June 19, 1865, when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, finally learned of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This day is a celebration of freedom, resilience, and African American culture.
