Due to the severe weather forecast for New York City this weekend, the IPDNYC Committee has made the very difficult decision to cancel this year’s gathering scheduled for the 12th & 13th of October on Randall’s Island. The safety of our community remains our top priority, and we want everyone to remain safe in their travels and preparations. The storm, also called a nor’easter, is expected to bring high winds and heavy rains throughout the duration of the event.
Unfortunately, even though the event is now canceled, there are associated fees that cannot be refunded such as some airline flight tickets, hotel rooms, insurance, and other already incurred expenses. Donations received to date will be used to cover these costs and any remaining funds will be forwarded to the event’s budget for next year.
We deeply appreciate all those who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes and supported this year’s efforts to bring our community together once again. This event is a highlight of the year for many of us. Your dedication and enthusiasm continues to inspire us, and we look forward to gathering again next year under better and safer conditions.
Although this year’s event is cancelled, you can still take action to support Indigenous Peoples by signing our petition to urge official recognition of Indigenous Peoples’ Day in NYC. You can also follow @IPDNYC on Instagram for event announcements regarding our 2026 return, and ways to get involved.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
