Taino Delegation Supports Freedom for

Leonard Peltier

At the nation's capital, Indigenous Peoples and Supporters join in solidarity for an American Indian Political Prisoner

Washington, DC - As part of a nation-wide campaign calling for the release of political prisoner, Leonard Peltier, a delegation of Taino representatives traveled to a very special gathering held in Washington DC. The historic event was part of Leonard Peltier Freedom Month, organized by the Leonard Peltier Defense Committee (LPDC).

A bus load of activist, including the Taino delegation, was organized by the Long Island Native American Task Force and UCTP member organization, Presencia Taina. Before the bus left from New York City, on behalf of the travelers, Elder, McKinnely Banks (Poospatuck) and R. Mucaro Borrero (Taino) offered prayers for a safe journey.

The four-1/2 hour bus trip included statements by community Elders, Activist, and WBAI radio personality, Raven Silva. Various videos were also featured informing the travelers about the case of Leonard Peltier, the forced relocation of Navajo (Dine) people in the Big Mountain area of Arizona, and the plight of Indigenous Canadians.
